Our second week here at Lava Creek brought back a bunch of familiar faces, and a couple new ones which is always great to see. We have a lot of repeat anglers year after year, which feels like a reunion every time past friends step off the plane to start their week of fishing for the fifth, sixth or seventh year in a row. But we love to get new guests and show them the Lava Creek experience for the first time(and turn them into future repeat clients and friends!)
Jean Pierre and Patrick came for the first time this week all the way from France, and by the end of the week were begging to get slots and return next year. That’s what it’s all about, making new friends on the river!
The week started off with blue skies and sun, which is good for the soul…but not so good for the king salmon bite. However, the salmon continued to push into the river, and with some persistence and creativity from our guides, beautiful fresh kings continued to slide into the nets.

The weather turned more Alaskan towards the end of the week, with some clouds and much needed rain, although we could use quite a bit more rain, the river is still very low water. Of course this didn’t deter the anglers, and is actually much better salmon fishing weather.
Our flyout river continued to fish extremely well this week, with everyone getting a chance to get over there via the float plane and experience the excitement.
Jean Pierre and Patrick had an epic day over there with double digits of kings landed and multiple doubles.

As always we did the 4th of July right, with a big picnic buffet spread by Betty including burgers, salmon burgers, hot dogs, bbq chicken, bbq salmon, jalapeno corn bread, mac and cheese, cole slaw, corn on the cob and of course followed up with homemade apple pie, brownies and fresh baked cookies!
